PROJECT CHAIR

I had the feeling of being ununhibited in the process... this platform offers a sense of safety in the
exploration while still challenging everyone to participate and share their work
Cara Roberts, teacher (Maple Ridge)

PROJECT CHAIR

Project Chair is a unique devised physical theatre program for students suitable for both in-person and remote learning. Project Chair is led by Susan Bertoia and allows for drama teachers to relax as well as join in and engage, knowing students are being moved & that the curriculum is being met!

skills fostered in Project Chair:
  • The devised physical theatre process
  • Building narrative through physical & visual prompts
  • Becoming more focused & relaxed performers
  • Entrances & exits
  • Precise, simple, repeatable movement development
  • Theatrical skills such as:
    • Dynamics of Play: rhythm, dimension, direction, tension
    • The Performer's Gaze
    • Fixed Points

The skills and knowledge honed during Project Chair will give students & drama teachers an expandable platform from which they will be able to create their own solo and group devised work. Project Chair gives artists a template that allows them to easily engage in devised physical theatre.
…encouraging, feeling free to be yourself and allowing others to step out of their shell
